So if you're lost into all these TA versions, you're not alone. Here's my understanding of it: - TA 5.6d = Latest complete MajorBBS TA by original author Sean Ferrel. All the way up to the Violet rune/stone passage. Also known as TA GOLD - TA II = uncompleted sequel to TA by Sean, supporting client/server interface, intended to bring TA to the graphical MMO league (ie: 4th coming and Everquest were new stuff back then). Very small world, it's more of a curiosity. Ported by Rick. Then we had the sysop-made custom versions: - TA Platinum : Extension of TA 5.6d done somewhere in the US. (not sure of the BBS) - TA 97 : Heavily extended version of TA 5.6d done on the Gamemaster BBS in Montreal. HUGE, lots of people worked on that one. Closed source and unavailable. Not just a TAEDIT mod. They recompiled the source code and inserted new mechanics, new races, classes, multi-promo ... Zelion provided maps and data. - Illusion BBS TA : Another heavily forked TA 5.6d. Several maps/runes after violet, lots of work done with TAEDIT. Info here: business.accesscomm.ca/montroze/TA_Maps/TA_Maps/mapmenu.html- others? Finally 2013 forward we have these: - TA CLASSIC = Port of original TA 5.6d on Worldgroup. Up to stone passage/violet rune. Hardcore gamers will reach the end rather quickly. - TA REBORN = Will be TA 5.6d but with new mechanics and intended to be the extendable, customizable TA. Dan if I inserted outrageous falacies, feel free to correct :-) Platinum was mine, it was a modified source version i purchased with a bbs in 2002, added on to the game before closing it down to write my own engine in 2004. from 2004 we had Tele-Arena 6.0 - my first ever attempt at creating my own engine, used btrieve and had a very good testing phase. Tele-Arena SQL, ditched btrieve and used an odbc ms-access database powered by powerlink ODBC driver for worldgroup, went very well but had some sluggish issues. Tele-Arena CLASSIC - ported the existing 5.6c codebase to nt replacing the missinf functions that were nested in a LIB with my own code, added nothing special, this game plays exactly to Tele-Arena 5.xx frimn the majorbbs datys. Tele-Arena REBORN - bringing the best of all the edited versions to one, ta96, ta97, platinum, and some community ideas as well as my own. |

Greetings.. I run a BBS named Onix (telnet://onixbbs.servebbs.com) and
after a nearly 20 year absence of thinking about TA, a user just signed on
asking all kinds of questions. I run version 5.6c (gold?). My user has maps
for 5.5. Are the maps for 5.6c majorly different? He is stuck in the arena,
trying to go DOWN as he could in 5.5. I do not have maps for 5.6c. Does any
one here have a set of maps or able to give me a link?

Hi Onix sysop, TA 5.6c includes the 4th town along with the complex of natural caverns + orc/gnoll caves. Purple rune from the demon king is the ultimate goal. All maps are here: tele-arena.tumblr.com/ (only the stone passages are not included in 5.6c. These were added in 5.6d) PS: I do know your bbs, AFAIK it's one of the oldest, still in operation Majorbbs and it's really reliable. Hats off! Greetings..
